Tabu's Veiled Taboo
Chapter 1: Steam and Silent Longing
[Section 1 of 13]
I had been calling his name for the last five minutes, wandering through the quiet house like I always did. My best friend and I had been inseparable since we were kids, and his place felt like a second home. Especially because of his mom. Tabu Auntie, as we called her since we were kids. At 46, she was the kind of woman who haunted every quiet moment of my timid, well-mannered life. Today the front door was unlocked, but the house felt empty. No response from upstairs. I figured he might be in the washroom attached to his parents’ bedroom since his was under repair. Maybe he was showering after a workout. I knocked the door a little hard to have the sound carry through to him beyond the loud shower. It wasn’t locked. It flung open.
The humid blast of steam hit me first, thick with the scent of jasmine and something warmer, more intimate. My eyes adjusted to the fogged glass of the large walk-in shower, and my heart slammed to a stop.
There she was.
